A young man suspected to be one of the feuding factions in the Bawku conflict was chased by the security operatives in the Bawku enclave. The suspect allegedly riding on an unregistered Sirius motorbike was moving from Bawku to Zebilla, but made a suspicious U-turn on reaching the checkpoint and sped off towards Bawku, prompting a hot pursuit by the security.
During the pursuit, the young man abandoned the motorbike escaped into the bush, and disappeared in the darkness.
A search of the motorbike revealed a sack containing an M-16 rifle with registration number A0082746 and two magazines with 34 live rounds of ammunition 17 rounds per magazine.
The M-16 rifle, ammunition, and unregistered motorbike have been retained for investigation while the suspect is still at large at the time of this report.
When I reporter tried to speak with ACP Adamu Seidu, he declined to comment on it and requested we speak with the Regional Police PRO. The PRO was however not reachable.
